In a game that started nearly 2 hours late because of a power outage at Doak Campbell Stadium, FSU hung with No. 19 SMU before falling 27-24 on a Mustangs field goal with 21 seconds to play.
With Doak’s game clock defunct, ESPN peeled off one of its scorebug operators to shadow the officials, starting and stopping the on-screen time by hand, second by second. Commercial breaks became recalibration windows to check the official time and nudge the homemade version back into sync.
What a weird, embarassing night in Tallahassee.
SMU was the only college football game on Labor Day and on primetime national television, and they didn't disappoint.
A transformer short caused a two-hour delay at the Florida State Seminoles football and SMU game, forcing teams to play without key technology.
