Look, Ma, no hands! Moa are completely wingless, lacking even vestigial wing bones. Owen famously first identified the moa from a single femur fragment in 1839. Moas were the large terrestrial herbivores of New Zealand. The South Island had Dinornis and Emeus living in lowland forests and shrublands and Euryapteryx in drier habitats.
